A new regulation has been introduced today to bring changes to medical checkups for foreigners living in Maldives for employment and business purposes.
Home Minister Ali Ihusan launched the new regulation at a ceremony held at the Health Ministry today.
According to the government, the policy aims to ensure that all long-term foreigners, except tourists, are healthy, fit and productive in order to control and prevent the spread of communicable diseases in the country.
With the new regulation, foreigners will have to undergo medical checkups for work visas, dependent visas, resident visas, student visas and corporate resident visas. Those getting marriage visas must also do a checkup with the first visa.
People who come on business visas from countries that are listed as endemic must also do checkups while extending the visa. Those with work visas, dependent visas, resident visas, student visas and corporate resident visas should also do an annual checkup.
In addition, testing for filariasis for people from malaria-endemic countries has been added to the new regulation. If tested positive, the medical checkup certificate will be issued when medication is taken.
