Two deputy managing directors (DMDs) have been appointed to the Maldives Airports Company Ltd (MACL) for the first time with Mujthaba Latheef and Lamaan Mohamed.

Mujthaba was formerly MACL's general manager, commercial. Lamaan previously served as Fenaka managing director as well as the registrar of the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM).

The appointment of Mujthaba and Lamaan as MACL DMDs was the first time that two DMDs were appointed in the company's history. Changes have also been made to the company's organizational structure. The DMD post had been newly created in April 2022.

With the decision to hire Mujthaba and Lamaan, MACL Chairman Mohamed Umar Manik (M U Manik) resigned from his post.

Manik, chairman of both Universal Enterprises and the Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI), tendered his resignation this week, Adhadhu has learned. However, it is unclear whether the Privatization and Corporatization Board (PCB) has accepted his resignation yet.

M U Manik was appointed to MACL's board in June 2013. He remained in the post despite the government changing three times since then.

Manik is one of the pioneers of Maldives tourism. His Universal Enterprises operates eight resorts in the country, including Kurumba Maldives, Velassaru Maldives, Kuramathi Maldives, Baros Maldives, Huvafenfushi Maldives, Kandholhu Maldives, Dhigali Maldives and Milaidhoo Maldives.
