President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has denied rumors that 4,000 flats built by the former government will be awarded to people on a list compiled by First Lady Sajidha Mohamed.
In the "Raeesge Javaabu" (President's Answer) series started by the President's Office, a video was posted on social media that shows a person asking questions about the flats and the list.
In response, President Muizzu denied the rumors and said that such allegations were being made to create conflict.
“Whether it is me or my wife or my friend, whether it is a person in a government position, this government will not influence in any way to infringe the rights of any citizen," he said.
"Whether it is a housing flat or even if it is any other right, I will not do anything to deprive anyone of that right. I will not allow for something like that to happen."
President Muizzu claimed that any program conducted by the government would be carried out in an equal, fair and transparent manner.
"I will not allow anyone to influence any of these things. If I have information about anyone doing such things, I will take action," he said.
The President said he would fulfill the rights of the people with honesty.
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) revealed on Monday that 60 percent of applicants deemed eligible for 'Gedhoruveriya' flats by the previous government's Housing Ministry did not meet the eligibility criteria.
