A foreigner was stabbed with a sharp object in Male' on Thursday night.
In a message sent to media, the police said the foreigner is being treated at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital.
The incident occurred at around 07:26 pm, the police added.
A foreign national has been detained in connection with the incident, police said, adding that further investigations are underway.
A video of the assault has been circulating on social media. It shows the foreigner with severe head injuries. Police did not disclose details of the injuries.
