The total cost of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's state visit to China with a 30-member delegation from January 7 to 13 was MVR 2.4 million, the President's Office said today.
Expenses on stay and food during the week spent by the Maldives delegation in China were covered by Chinese government, according to details of spending during the trip disclosed by the President's Office today.
Details of expenditure:
- MVR 2,020,482 on tickets for 30 people from Maldives to China (three business class, 27 economy class) and 29 people from China to Maldives (10 business class, 19 economy class)
- MVR 10,000 per person as pocket money for 30 people (total MVR 300,000)
- MVR 14,000 to buy SIM cards and VPN
- MVR 89,000 as incidental expenses
During the President's trip, 20 agreements were signed between the Maldives and China. Notable deals included an agreement for about USD 130 million as grant aid from China to the Maldives, building 30,000 social housing units in Rasmale' and the Velana International Airport's expansion project.
Aside from announcing the signing of these agreements, the government has so far not disclosed much detail about the 20 agreements.
