Work on the "Binveriya" scheme launched by the previous administration to provide housing to the people of Male' is proceeding without pause, the government assured last night.
President's Office Public Policy Secretary Mohamed Firuzul Abdulla Khaleel participated as President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's representative in a meeting organized by three separate associations of Male' residents at Sultan Park on Saturday night.
As some members of the public expressed concern over the failure to hand over plots of land awarded from Gulhifalhu, Giraavaru and Hulhumale' to native Male' residents by former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's government, Firuzul assured on behalf of the President that work was ongoing on four aspects related to to the plots.
The ongoing work included further reclamation to add more land and handing over plot registries as well as establishing basic infrastructure and public transport services.
"These four things certainly have to be completed for us to be able to live in those places easily as a community. The President's assurance is that these four efforts are ongoing at the same time without any interruption," Firuzul said.
The government is registering plots as soon as the land is reclaimed, he said. The President has also assured that a temporary title deed or document would be handed over to recipients where possible, he said.
Firuzul also provided updates on land reclamation at Gulhifalhu, Giraavaru and Hulhumale' phase three.
"Reclamation of about 50 or 54 hectares has been completed in Giraavaru. Reclamation of about 94 hectares has been completed in Gulhifalhu. And as I have been informed, reclamation of the second segment is now ongoing in the Hulhumale' lagoon as well," he said.
None of the land reclamation work has stalled and the government has revised plans to expand the size of the area to be reclaimed, he said.
