Senior officials of the company that constructed the China-Maldives Friendship Bridge have met with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
Muizzu is currently on a state visit to China on the invitation of President Xi Jinping.
He met with officials of China Communications Construction Company Limited (CCCC) today. The government has not released details of the meeting.
The President also visited the Xiamen Free Trade Zone in Fujian province. Following a presentation, Muizzu took a tour and inquired about significant areas in the Zone.
The Sinamale' Bridge or China-Maldives Friendship Bridge was a major project undertaken with Chinese assistance when Muizzu was the Housing Minister. The bridge was officially dedicated on August 30, 2018.
The bridge project is one of the largest infrastructure projects in Maldives recent history. The bridge is 1.3 km long and 20 meters wide.
