Shaviyani Goidhoo council is seeking a developer to establish an agricultural processing facility in the island.
The council has made an announcement seeking interested parties to build the facility using equipment provided by the council.
Interested parties are invited to submit bids until the office closing hours on January 14.
Goidhoo Council Vice President Hussain Ziyad told Adhadhu that the new establishment will facilitate farmers to pack their produce.
"This is a project that is partially funded by SAARC. The project is going on with a lot of support from SAARC," he said.
The processing facility is part of the SAARC Development Fund's Livelihood Enhancement of Small Scale Farmers in SAARC Region through Small Scale Agri-Business Focusing on Value Chain Development project.
Every couple in Goidhoo has a farm. There are about 200 farms in the island. These include 3,000 square feet plots and 10,000 square feet allocated to businesses.
The agricultural products in Goidhoo are exported to Kulhudhuffushi city, Male' and other islands. They are transported by atoll ferry and cargo ferry.
