The Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology has brought major changes to the rules on "work permit medicals" for foreign workers in Maldives.
The ministry said in an announcement yesterday that it will stop issuing work permits without medical from January 4.
"From January 4, permits will be issued to those who have entered Maldives under work permit entry passes and the fee for extending permit duration can be paid upon submission of a work 'permit medical' report through the Expat system done by a registered medical provider," the ministry announced.
Those who have entered Maldives without undergoing medical examination are also required to submit their medical reports through the Expat system by July 4.
Similarly, those entering Maldives with an entry pass are required to complete a medical within 15 days.
A foreigner whose work permit has expired can also re-enter the country by preparing a medical report from abroad and submitting it through the Expat system. The report should include all tests required by the Ministry of Health.
