A 100-bed tertiary hospital planned to be built in Vilimalé is to be financed with grant aid, Health Minister Dr. Abdulla Khaleel has said.
In an exclusive interview with Adhadhu after a ceremony held to launch sea ambulance services between Vilimalé and Malé, the minister said the design process was ongoing now, after which a budget would be allocated for the project.
"We are now working on the design. Project financing has been arranged as grant aid in partnership with another country. We will reveal the budget when the design work is complete," the Health Minister noted.
Work on building the Vilimalé tertiary hospital is expected to begin this year, Health Minister Dr. Khaleel said.
The new hospital is to be built on the site of the existing Vilimalé hospital. However, if the site lacks adequate space, the old hospital will be demolished to build the tertiary hospital.
If the hospital is to be torn down, a temporary clinic or health center will be opened, according to the government.
The new hospital will be developed in an environment-friendly process, the Health Ministry said.
