Heavy rainfall across the country since last night has caused damages in Malé and five other islands, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has said.

Varying degrees of damages have been reported from Faafu Nilandhoo, Kaafu Guraidhoo, Laamu Gan and Fonadhoo, and Addu City Maradhoo, the NDMA said in a post on X.

"20 homes were flooded in K. Guraidhoo and people relocated from three homes," the NDMA said.

Most roads of Malé were flooded as it had been raining nonstop since Saturday night.

The city council, police and soldiers have been working together to place sandbags after rainwater seeped into some homes in Malé, the NDMA said.

As bad weather prevailed over the country, a yellow alert warning of torrential rain and thunderstorms was issued from Noonu atoll to Vaavu atoll until 1 pm today.

In Seenu Maradhoo, a breadfruit tree fell on the roof of the Fazaa house. The Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) cut down the tree and helped clean the area. None of the residents was harmed in the incident.

The NDMA and other agencies recently provided assistance to families in Fuvahmulah and Addu cities after heavy downpours flooded roads and homes.
