As pledged by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu during the presidential election campaign, the cabinet decided on Sunday to close government offices for the last 10 days of Ramadan.
Briefing the press at the President's Office about decisions made during yesterday's cabinet meeting, Chief Spokesperson Mohamed Shaheeb said President Muizzu decided to close the government during the last 10 days of Ramadan in order to establish Islamic principles and instil love among the public for religious affairs. Allowing the public to prioritize religious duties was also an objective of the decision, he added.
"It has been determined that starting next year the government will be closed for the final 10 [days] of Ramadan every year," Shaheeb said.
Recalling President Muizzu's pledge to close government offices for the last 10 days of Ramadan along with the date on which the pledge was made, Shaheeb said the government was comprehensively fulfilling the pledges listed in its plan for the first 100 days in office.
All of the cabinet's decisions yesterday were intended to fulfill such pledges, he said.
