An employee of the President's official residence Muleeage has been fired for allegedly meeting with former First Lady Fazna Ahmed.
A government official familiar with the dismissal told Adhadhu that the woman regularly met Fazna and shared information.
"She was hired in 2019. We have received information that she regularly meets Fazna. We believe she carries information," the official said.
However, the official did not clarify what kind of information it was.
Adhadhu understands that a decision has been made to fire two more employees.
Fazna expressed her concerns on Facebook over the dismissal.
She said three employees, a man and two women, who worked as a cook, a kitchen worker and a housekeeping in-charge, have been laid off.
"One of the women who was fired is the mother of a thalassemia child who needs a monthly transfusion. She is not a political employee," Fazna said.
President's Office Communications Minister Ibrahim Khaleel said the layoffs would be carried out following the rules.
“Laying off appointed employees, dismissal due to changes in structure, renewal or non-renewal of contracts, resignation before contract ends and dismissal for breach of contract are always happening,” he said.
As repair and construction work is ongoing at Muleeage, the President and the first family are residing in President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's private residence Maafannu Dhimyaath.
However, First Lady Sajidha Mohamed holds official meetings at Muleeage.
