The Civil Service Commission (CSC) has decided to offer a contract to First Lady Sajidha Mohamed as she wishes to stay in her job at the Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA).

Madam Sajidha is a senior scientific officer at the MFDA. She is the most experienced official in the country with academic qualifications in the field. Sajidha has continued working after President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu assumed office.

As First Lady is not an official post, there is no legal obstacle for her to retain a civil service job. However, as she would be unable to work full-time while fulfilling the duties of the First Lady, she has asked for flexible arrangements to continue working.

"She has made a request to contribute to the CSC in the future as a person with experience in the health sector. We are working on making arrangements under a contract," CSC President Mohamed Nasih told Adhadhu on Tuesday.

As First Lady Sajidha is among the most experienced scientific officers at the MFDA, the CSC is in the process of drawing up an agreement to make the necessary arrangements.

According to the law on renumeration for the President and Vice President, the state must provide an allowance to the President's spouse. The allowance will be one-third of the President's salary.
