Maldives Correctional Service has begun investigations after accusing former President Abdulla Yameen of participating in a political activity.

Yameen was transferred to house arrest on October 1, while serving an eleven-year prison sentence for bribery.

On October 28, he was allowed to go outside of his home, but was forbidden from participating in political activities.

He was later cautioned after taking part in some political activities.

A corrections official told Adhadhu today that they had received information that Yameen had participated in a political activity and that action would be taken if necessary after investigating the case.

Yameen attended a signing ceremony for the newly formed People's National Front (PNF) at its office on Sunday night. He was the first to sign up for the PNF.
