Jumhooree Party (JP) leader Qasim Ibrahim has proposed to the council meeting held yesterday to seek views on the dissolution of the JP and the transfer of party members to the People's National Congress (PNC).

Adhadhu can confirm that the proposal was made by Qasim. However, the motion was not debated at the meeting as most council members opposed it.

Two council members of the party who attended the meeting confirmed that the party leader Qasim had proposed to dissolve the party.

However, JP spokesperson Ali Solih said no such proposal had been submitted to the council, but some members "interpreted" the proposal in that manner.

He said yesterday’s meeting voted on working with other parties in the upcoming parliamentary elections and a seven-member committee was formed for that purpose.

Qasim said his proposal comes after President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu had made the suggestion, according to some members at the meeting. However, the ruling PNC has not yet commented on the matter.

JP leader Qasim contested the presidential election but came fifth with 5,000 votes. In the second round, the party did not take sides, but various members supported President Muizzu and former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. Those who supported Muizzu had left the JP and joined the PNC.
