The use of pressure pads at airports operated by the Regional Airports Company has been temporarily suspended following the explosion of a cylinder used in fire training at Kulhudhuffushi Airport.
The Pressure Equipment Directive (PAD) system is used in training drills by the Fire and Rescue Department in all airports across the country. These drills are required to be held every three months.
Regional Airports Company General Manager Commercial, Mohamed Mauroof told Adhadhu that the use of the system has been temporarily suspended at all the airports operated by the company.
"We are now working with the Civil Aviation Authority to investigate the incident. So the use of the system has been temporarily suspended as a precaution," Mauroof said.
He said airports will be allowed to resume using the system when the investigation is complete.
Four firefighters were injured in the cylinder explosion at Kulhudhuffushi Airport on Thursday. One had sustained serious injuries.
