A total of 342 audits planned for next year includes the floating city project in Male’ atoll, the Audit Office said on Monday.

The Audit Office proposed its annual work plan for next year at a meeting held with parliament’s public accounts committee yesterday for submitting the 2024 budget for the Auditor General’s Office.

The plan includes 294 finance and compliance audits, 39 audit reviews, five special audits, four performance audits and four information audits, Director Mohamed Shan told the committee.

The audits involve local councils, state institutions, 39 state-owned enterprises, 30 government projects and three public funds.

The Maldives floating city project is among the special audits planned for next year.

The joint project by Dutch Docklands and the Maldives government is behind schedule by years and the project plan and completion date have been pushed back several times. Significant work has not taken place so far under the project.

Other special audits planned for next year include the State Trading Organization (STO) and Fuel Supply’s oil stocks as well as the SME Development Finance Corporation, Maldives State Shipping and Regional Airports Company.

The top priority next year will be major audits such as the entire state’s financial records, Shan said.

Public debt and guarantees, fiscal strategy, budget strategy and debt position report as well as all government ministries and institutions will be audited, he said.

At the committee meeting, the Audit Office asked parliament to approve a budget of MVR 123 million for the office next year.
