Land use plans for awarding plots from Hulhumale’, Gulhifalhu and Giraavaru under the current administration’s ‘Binveriya’ housing scheme were made public on Tuesday.
The land use plans released by the Planning Ministry marked out residential plots and areas for commercial use, sports, recreation and utilities.
The plans also designated environmentally-protected areas.
The decentralization law mandated the formulation of land use plans for inhabited islands. But the land use plans of some islands have still not been approved.
The government decided to award plots to 97 percent of applicants under the ‘Binveriya’ scheme. That is 9,003 plots for 18,955 people.
The plots to be allocated in the first round under the 'Binveriya' scheme include 1,351 plots in Hulhumale', 2,219 plots in Gulhifalhu and 5,433 plots in Giraavaru lagoon.
The Planning Ministry is working on registering and handing over the plots to successful applicants.
