The Maldives government on Tuesday said it has learned that Oman does not grant on-arrival visas to Maldivians despite previous assurances by the Middle Eastern country.
The government announced on March 30 that Maldivians would be granted on-arrival visas in Oman.
A Maldivian tried to travel to Oman based on the Foreign Ministry’s statement. But he was denied entry to the country, the man revealed in a post on social media.
The Foreign Ministry said in a statement shared with the media in response to the incident that the announcement of on-arrival visas on March 30 was based on information provided by the relevant authority in Oman.
“…however, the ministry later learned that Maldivians are granted 14-day on-arrival visas after meeting conditions,” which are:
- Possession of a visa or citizenship of the UK, America, Schengen countries, Canada, Australia or Japan.
- Hotel booking, return ticket and health insurance.
Maldivians who do not meet the criteria are required to apply for visas in advance of travelling to Oman, the Foreign Ministry said in its statement.
