The sacking of Dr. Hussain Faiz as Secretary General of the Supreme Court on suspicion of spying on judges was unlawful, the Employment Tribunal has ruled.
Faiz was fired over the alleged spying in November last year after a suspension of six months, after which he filed a complaint with the Employment Tribunal to determine that his sacking was unlawful.
After the tribunal concluded his case on Monday, Faiz told Adhadhu that his dismissal was ruled to be in violation of both the employment law and his employment contract.
The tribunal ordered the court to reimburse Faiz for lost salary and benefits within 30 days.
In his complaint, Faiz did not seek an order from the Employment Tribunal for his reinstatement as the Supreme Court’s Secretary General.
The Department of Judicial Administration (DJA) suspended Faiz on March 31 last year over issues flagged in a security audit of the Supreme Court.
The DJA said in a statement released on November 2 last year that Faiz was sacked for spying on judges and staff after installing CCTV cameras at the court premises and arranging for the camera feed to be available in his office room.
