Maradhoo MP Ibrahim Shareef has been assaulted near a polling station.
Shareef told Adhadhu that he was attacked while inside the Manhattan Business Hotel near Izzuddin School.
Photos show Sharif's face severely swollen and injuries sustained to the eyes.
"I was in Manhattan with some people when a large group came and attacked me. I don't know why. I don't know who attacked me," he said.
He condemned such acts of violence to create chaos as voting is underway in the runoff round of the presidential election.
He has reported the matter to the police and investigations have been launched.
In a similar attack, Feydhoo MP Mohamed Nihad who is currently in Addu City was also assaulted.
