Democrats presidential candidate Ilyas Labeeb has proposed vacating small plots as part of his Veshi Fahi Male' policy and vision for the congested capital.
The party started providing information today to residents of 10 blocks selected for development through the policy.
Veshi Fahi Male' policy:
- Providing a 1000 square foot plot in Hulhumale' or the Greater Male' region to the land owner
- Providing a two- or three-bedroom condo unit to every resident registered in the house who is above 18 years
- Relocating the residents of the most overcrowded 10 blocks in Male' to condominium buildings to be developed in blocks 111, 351, 355, 356 and 360
- Ensuring that the condominiums to be built in Ameenee Magu under the supervision of government companies are developed with modern facilities for entertainment, exercise, sports, business activity and other services needed for an urban lifestyle
- Developing daycare centers for children and elder care centers for senior citizens in the condominium buildings
The Democrats said the model has been successfully implemented in high-density crowded urban cities such as Singapore.
The party has been holding a series of neighborhood corner gatherings in Male' since August 28 to explain Ilyas Labeeb's vision.
Former President Mohamed Nasheed as well as Democrat MPs and city councilors representing Male' constituencies are among the speakers at the events.
