As the countdown to the commencement of Visit Maldives Pro 2023 inches closer, the atmosphere is charged with excitement, promising a fiercer competition than the previous year. The international bodyboarding community is set to witness a riveting clash of talents from around the globe during this year's IBC World Tour.
Diverging from the norms of the past, the 2023 edition boasts a significant rise in athlete participation, fueling a heightened level of competition. Unlike last year, when athletes predominantly arrived in Male' city a mere day ahead of the tournament, this year has seen a dramatic shift. A week before the event's commencement, a group of dedicated bodyboarders graced the city, intensifying their preparations. An impressive 90% of the participants had set foot in the city three days prior to kick-off, underlining the event's significance in their calendars.
The athletes' early arrivals are strategically calculated, enabling them to acclimatize to the local wave conditions and ambiance, as they gear up to tackle the World Tour's second-most significant competition this year. Reflecting on the past, the lessons drawn from last year's event reinforced the importance of adequate preparation, a sentiment echoed by Brazil's Isabella Sousa, the reigning women's champion. Isabella's five-day early arrival in the city reiterates the value of practice in the Varunula wave before the tournament. Notably, male's division and drop knee contender, Amaury Levan, also embraced extensive training in the city's waves in the lead-up to the event.
The preparations of the athletes have translated into an unmistakable rhythm in the city's waters over the last few days. From sunrise to sunset, the waves echo with the dedication of athletes refining their prowess. Mornings witness a flurry of activity, extending well into the afternoons and sunsets, as participants immerse themselves in the ocean's embrace.
Amidst the athletes' fevered preparations, the Maldives Bodyboarding Association (MBBA) labors meticulously to orchestrate a seamless tournament. The setup of tents, stage planning, and other facilities for the athletes are meticulously coordinated to surpass last year's standards. The MBBA's commitment to an elevated experience is closely monitored by the World Bodyboarding Organization (IBC), ensuring a world-class execution.
In the lead-up to the event, a comprehensive judging seminar was conducted in the city, demonstrating the judges' meticulous preparation for this international showdown.
With all said and done, one thing remains certain that Visit Maldives Pro 2023 is poised to be a kaleidoscope of vibrancy, strength, and exhilaration, painting the Maldives with an extraordinary brush. The MBBA holds high hopes that this year's competition will pave the way for an innovative era of bodyboarding for Maldivians, setting new horizons ablaze.
