The Maldives Bodyboarding Association (MBBA) has unveiled an exciting new initiative, 'Hudhu Fonu,' a youth development programme designed to nurture young bodyboarding talent across the nation.
Open to both boys and girls under the age of 16, this programme aims to cultivate a new generation of bodyboarding enthusiasts and future champions.
Under the guidance of acclaimed bodyboarding champions, 'Hudhu Fonu' promises an enriching experience for its young participants.
The girls' clinic will be conducted by none other than five-time world champion Neymara Carvalho from Brazil. Meanwhile, the boys' clinic will be led by two-time world champion Amaury Leverhne of France.
Both Neymara and Amaury are esteemed competitors in the upcoming Visit Maldives Pro of the IBC World Tour, set to kick off in Male on August 3. Their presence and commitment to fostering young talent demonstrate the passion and dedication they bring not only to the sport but also to empowering aspiring athletes in the Maldives.
Last year, Amaury Leverhne also participated in the finals of the Open and Drop Knee divisions during the Maldives Pro, showcasing his versatility and expertise across different bodyboarding disciplines. Neymara, on the other hand, made it to the semi-finals of the women's division, demonstrating her exceptional skill and tenacity on the waves.
The success of similar youth development clinics conducted last year has inspired the MBBA to expand the programme this year, reaching out to young boys and girls across the country.
Last year's clinics, facilitated by Amaury and Neymara, received an overwhelming response from children in the city, attesting to the growing interest in bodyboarding among Maldivian youth.
Additionally, world drop knee champion David Hubbard also ran a coaching clinic for the national junior team last year, further illustrating the dedication of top bodyboarding athletes to support and nurture talent in the Maldives.
With the 'Hudhu Fonu' youth development programme, the MBBA aims to instill not only technical skills but also the spirit of sportsmanship, perseverance, and camaraderie among the young bodyboarders.
This concerted effort to invest in the next generation of bodyboarding stars ensures a bright future for the sport in the Maldives and reinforces the country's position as a vibrant hub for water sports enthusiasts worldwide.
