The ambassadors of five countries that decided to observe the September 9 presidential election have met the Elections Commission (EC) members.
EC Vice President Ismail Habeeb tweeted that in addition to the five countries, many international organizations have met to discuss the election.
Habeeb said the ambassadors of Australia, Canada, Japan, the UK and India have met with the EC members and learned about preparations for the election.
They also discussed the possibility of providing technical assistance in the electoral process to ensure that this year’s elections are transparent and fair, he added.
Habeeb further said EC officials also discussed the election with various countries that attended the Executive Board meeting of the Association of World Election Bodies (A-WEB) held in Colombia last week.
"UNDP, the EU delegation and the Commonwealth Pre-Assessment Mission are closely monitoring the election arrangements," he stated.
The first round of voting in this year's presidential election will be held on September 9. The number of eligible voters is around 280,000.
