President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Thursday night criticized the council of Kaafu Guraidhoo for not providing land to the people from the newly reclaimed area.
Speaking during a campaign rally on the island, Solih said the government would bring necessary changes to fulfill pledges.
“I regret that the council has not done their job so far,” he said, noting that land has not been given from the newly reclaimed area.
Solih promised to build housing units on the new land in order to provide housing for the people of Guraidhoo.
Guraidhoo land reclamation project worth MVR 85 million was completed in September 2021 by adding 15 hectares to the existing 21.8 hectares.
The island council earlier announced that a large proportion of the new area will be used to give land plots to the people.
They also planned additional housing projects and worked on formulating a land use plan. However, the land plots have not been given so far.
