Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid on Tuesday held talks with Indian External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar on the infrastructure development projects in Maldives through loan and grant assistance from India.
Shahid, who is currently on an official visit to India, posted some photos of the meeting on Twitter.
He tweeted that the main topic of discussion during the meeting was development projects in Maldives through Indian loans and grants and further expanding collaboration between the two countries.
Discussions were also held on the joint efforts of the militaries of the two countries to maintain peace and security in the Indian Ocean, Shahid added.
Since President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih took office, Maldives has maintained its closest ties with India. All the major infrastructure projects in the country are being carried out through funds released by India.
One of the biggest projects initiated by the government, the Male-Thilafushi bridge and the development of the commercial port at Gulhi Falhu, are also funded through a USD 400 million credit facility and a USD 100 million grant from Indian Exim Bank.
