President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih is using a private vessel for campaign travel, the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has said.
An MDP activist said in a tweet that President Solih is using a private speedboat in contrast to previous presidents travelling on government vessels for campaign trips.
A photo of the speedboat was also shared in the tweet.
The president departed this morning on the first trip of his campaign. He was due to visit Shaviyani Komandoo, Maroshi, Noomara and Foakaidhoo, according to the MDP.
He was accompanied by Adhaalath Party (AP) leader Sheikh Imran Abdulla and Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) leader Ahmed Siyam Mohamed.
Both parties have formed a coalition with the MDP. Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid and other MDP leadership figures also travelled with the president to Shaviyani atoll.
