The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will investigate the case of a barge that ran aground near Fuvahmulah.
Fuvahmulah city council's media official earlier said that the barge which ran aground was loaded with aggregate for the shore protection project.
EPA Director General Ibrahim Naeem told Adhadhu that the owner of the barge had given false information to the EPA.
The owner told EPA that the barge did not run aground, but EPA believes that the information is false.
Naeem said the agency will investigate the matter.
MT Hojgaard, a Denmark company, was contracted for the coastal protection project of Fuvahmulah city.
The company declined to comment.
