Ali Hafeez, who was seriously injured when he was hit by a speeding motorcycle while crossing Majeedhi Magu on Eid morning, has received donations to get treatment abroad.

Hafeez, 50, is still in critical condition in the ICU of ADK Hospital. His family and friends started seeking donations on Saturday to hire an air ambulance to send him abroad for treatment.

A Facebook post on behalf of Hafeez said that with the help of his family members, friends, Maldives National University (MNU) staff and students, the public and the government, arrangements have been made to send him abroad in an air ambulance.

"At this sad time, the family greatly appreciates prayers for Hafeez's speedy recovery."

A 22-year-old man was arrested with a court warrant six days after the dangerous accident. The police earlier said he did not have a driving license.

Hafeez was leaving the mosque after dawn prayer and crossing the street to go to the Redwave shop when he was hit by the motorcycle and thrown forty feet away.
