No suspects have been detained in connection to the accident early on Eid day, police said, despite the injured man being in serious condition.
A 50-year-old man was injured on Wednesday morning after being hit by an unlicensed motorbike rider.
ADK Hospital's Managing Director Ahmed Affaal told Adhadhu that the injured man is still being treated and his condition is serious.
Adhadhu understands that the man's family intends to airlift him abroad for further treatment.
Ali Hafeez is a senior lecturer at the Maldives National University (MNU).
Police confirmed that the motorbike involved in the accident was ridden by a 22-year-old man who did not have a driving license.
Hafeez was leaving the mosque after dawn prayer and crossing the street to go to the Redwave shop when he was hit by the motorcycle and thrown forty feet away.
Police said they were investigating the case but did not say why no arrests had been made.
Hafeez's friends and well-wishers are calling for a proper investigation into the incident and all necessary legal action to be taken.
In April, two speedboats collided killing one person. Police have not made any arrests in connection to that accident as well.
