President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih endorsed on Thursday the recommendations of the home ownership committee on the future course of action for the 'Binveriya' housing scheme.
The government invited applications for the flats and plots of land on June 26, 2022. It was later decided to award 1000 plots from Hulhumale', 2000 plots from Gulhifalhu and at least 2000 plots from land to be reclaimed from the Giraavaru lagoon to native residents of Male'. Of the 5000 plots, 3000 plots will be handed over in the first round.
The President's Office said the president endorsed recommendations from the home ownership committee after evaluating a paper submitted by the planning ministry.
The committee is tasked with assessing and finalising the list of individuals eligible for flats and lands under the administration's 'Binveriya' and 'Gedhoruveriya' housing schemes.
The president's office said that further information regarding the recommendations will be released by the planning ministry.
The date for announcing successful applicants for flats and plots of land under the schemes remains unchanged and the list will be released in June, the planning ministry said earlier this week.
State minister Akram Kamaludeen, who chairs the home ownership committee, assured Adhadhu that the list will be announced in June. The ministry previously said the list would be announced before Eid.
Asked if it would be announced before Eid, Akram said closing for the holidays was "a completely different matter." He said repeatedly that the list will be announced this month.
The 'Binveriya' housing scheme is the largest housing initiative undertaken in the country. It has received 15,164 applications from 23,088 individuals.
