Parliament's deputy speaker Eva Abdulla on Saturday urged the youth to vote, regardless of the circumstances.

She gave the advice during the closing ceremony of the Practice Parliament for Youth program.

Speaking as the chief guest, Eva said she often hears that there is no candidate deserving of the people’s votes.

“I am not here today to tell you who to vote for. I am here to encourage you to vote, if you are eligible to vote, make sure you do no matter what,” she said.

She said voting gives people a great deal of influence over the next five years and that eligible voters should not relinquish that power.

The Galolhu North MP disagreed with claims that the youth are no longer politically active.

“I have never seen a more politically active youth generation than today's. You have more ways to express your opinions than we did in our day, when we only had the streets.”

She noted that the current generation of youth makes full use of the social platforms to express their opinion and be politically active.
