Bunny Holdings (BVI) has been fined for starting coral cultivation in the lagoon of Soneva Fushi Resort without conducting an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA).
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) said that Bunny Holdings carried out work to plant corals in the lagoon of Soneva Fushi Resort without doing the EIA.
EPA fined the company MVR 20,000 and ordered it to pay the amount within 30 days.
The company has also been asked to submit a report within 30 days after an assessment by an EIA consultant to determine the environmental impact of the coral planting.
EPA has previously investigated and fined several companies for environmentally damaging activities in some resorts. If the money is not paid, the case is filed in court.
