Civil society must take a proactive role in addressing matters, says Solih

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has called on civil society across all islands to take a proactive role in addressing community-related matters.

Speaking at the function to present the first Civil Society Awards on Thursday night, Solih emphasised the importance and urgency of civil society engagement in tackling issues.

“Faster results are found for issues when civil societies in the islands take the initiative,” he stated.

He highlighted the need to address the social issues in the islands through a decentralised approach and noted the significant role civil society can play in this effort.

At the ceremony, Solih presented awards to the 10 recipients of the first Civil Society Awards.

Vice President Faisal Naseem launched the "Mees Portal," and the First Lady presented award letters to the recipients of the NGO grants.

Civil Society Awards aim to foster social empowerment, encourage proactive engagement by civil society, raise awareness about pressing social issues, and recognise and acknowledge the invaluable contributions of civil society.
