A 43-year-old Maldivian man died early Saturday morning following an accident on the highway connecting Male’ and Hulhumale’.
The accident involving a motorcycle and a pickup was reported at 12:04 am.
“The male motorcycle rider was declared dead when taken to Treetop Hospital,” police stated.
Eyewitnesses told Adhadhu that the man sustained severe injuries to the head and a torrent of blood had flowed on the highway.
Police have begun an investigation into the accident.
On May 12, a young man died while being treated for injuries sustained when a motorcycle crashed into a car in Hulhumale’ phase two.
According to police statistics, 77 people were injured in 539 road accidents in the first four months of this year.
It showed that 95 percent of all accidents reported in the country or 516 accidents occurred in the congested capital Male’ city.
Some 341 accidents involved cars and 317 accidents involved motorcycles while six heavy vehicles were also involved in accidents.
