Champa group founder Mohamed Moosa ‘Uhchu’ has made a donation worth MVR 1.17 million (USD 76,224) to Haa Alif Hoarafushi International School.
His daughter Sarah Mohamed Moosa, board chairperson of Champa and Crown resorts, handed over the donation to the island council president Mohamed Waheed and Hoarafushi MP Ahmed Saleem.
The new school for kindergarten children will begin operating in August for the upcoming academic year. The school is run by the island council.
The donation includes financial assistance, furniture, office supplies and playground equipment that amounts to MVR 1.17 million.
The people of Hoarafushi requested assistance from the influential tycoon when he visited the island in 2021 for the national fishermen’s day ceremony.
