There are serious allegations that more than 600 parking spaces have been sold in the streets of Hulhumale' district of the capital city.

According to reliable sources, the parking slots were sold illegally at MVR 35,000 to MVR 50,000 per slot.

This means MVR 21 million can be raised by selling these spaces. The parking spaces were sold in eight areas of Hulhumale'.

According to a source, the transaction was conducted under the orders of high-level government officials to raise funds for the campaign.

"This was done in collaboration with a government official and some of the HDC officials to raise money for the campaign," a source said.

Housing Development Corporation (HDC) Managing Director Ali Zuhair declined to give a direct answer when questioned by Adhadhu.

Zuhair said journalists must contact other officials for media queries. This is likely to be seen as an excuse to refrain from commenting.

When President Mohamed Muizzu was the Mayor of Male', hundreds of parking spaces were allegedly sold, in a similar manner, by charging high fees.
