The Maldives Journalists Association (MJA) has called for a serious investigation into the death threats against Adhadhu CEO Hussain Fiyaz Moosa and journalist Mohamed Shahzan.
In a post on social media X, the MJA called on the relevant agencies to investigate the case and provide protection to Fiyaz and Shahzan.
The association also said that insults and threats against newspapers and individual journalists are unacceptable and such actions have a negative impact on democracy.
A person has threatened to kill Fiyaz and Shahzan after a documentary on President Mohamed Muizzu's alleged extramarital affair with an employee.
In a comment on the Adhadhu website, the person used profanities and warned that Fiyaz and Shahuzan must not go out on the street if they want to live.
In order to protect the privacy of its readers, Adhadhu does not maintain the information of those who comment on the website.
There have been numerous threats since Adhadhu began publishing five years ago on April 4, 2021.
