Former Environment Minister Aminath Shauna was summoned to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Monday (March 3).
In a post on social media X, Shauna wrote that she was summoned to the ACC "over a recommendation made by the Economic Council."
"Every engagement I have undertaken as Minister of Environment, Climate Change and Technology was lawful and fully compliant with the Constitution and the laws of the Maldives," she wrote.
Adhadhu understands that the ACC probe is related to a decision by the Economic Council to issue compensation to a private party.
On November 28, 2022, a rule was formulated on the Resolution of Disputes between the Government and the Private Sector.
Under the rule, compensation was awarded after the matter was investigated by a relevant agency, referred to the Settlement Committee, which, after reviewing, submitted it to the Economic Council, whose recommendation was discussed in Cabinet before reaching a decision.
The ACC has not yet commented on the investigation. But other former members of the Settlement Committee, the Economic Council and Cabinet ministers are also expected to be summoned for the investigation.
