The Prosecutor General’s (PG) Office has decided not to press charges against the government's mayoral candidate Moosa Ali Jaleel in connection with recevieng money from the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) corruption scandal.

After an investigation, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) said the MVR 1 million received by Moosa Ali Jaleel from MMPRC was earned through criminal means. The ACC also said there were reasonable grounds to believe that Moosa Ali Jaleel would have known that it was money obtained by crime.

The MMPRC paid MVR 1 million to Moosa Ali Jaleel through former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb. The investigation also proved that the money was deposited into his own bank account and used for his own purposes.

The PG Office ruled that there was no evidence to prosecute Moosa Ali Jaleel in 2023.
