The re-registration window for the referendum on merging the presidential and parliamentary elections will end tomorrow (February 22).
The Elections Commission (EC) opened re-registration on February 18. The deadline is 3:00 pm tomorrow.
Only those who wish to vote at a place other than where they are currently registered should apply for re-registration within this period.
Application for re-registration can be submitted online through the commission's re-registration portal or main portal.
The registered polling station can be found on the commission's website.
The question to be put to the public reads: “Do you approve the ratification of the Eighth Amendment to the Constitution, which provides for the Presidential and People’s Majlis elections to be held concurrently and for a change to the term of the People’s Majlis?”
If the public votes in favour of this, the 2028 presidential and parliamentary elections will be held together. President Mohamed Muizzu is the only confirmed candidate so far.
The opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) National Council on Thursday (February 19) passed a resolution to work against merging the elections.
