Deputy Commissioner of Police Farhad Fikry has been appointed as the acting Commissioner of Police.
Homeland Security Minister Ali Ihusaan appointed Fikry as per the law to fill the vacancy following the retirement of former Police Commissioner Ismail Naveen.
Naveen who retired yesterday (February 18) did not state the exact reason for his decision.
The new acting Commissioner Farhad faces serious allegations being probed by the parliament's Security Services (241) Committee.
He had been accused of using influence to protect his son from facing charges over attacking a law enforcement officer.
Mohamed Fauzan Farhad was allegedly intoxicated and attacked a law enforcement officer while being arrested on February 27, 2025. The new acting Commissioner is accused of trying to bury the case.
Farhad has previously faced allegations of tampering with evidence in a rape case involving his son. In 2014, Fauzan was arrested for raping a 16-year-old minor and recording her nude images.
His phone was confiscated by the police for the investigation when Farhad was accused of tampering with evidence. Investigations proved that the deputy commissioner was the one who deleted the evidence on the phone.
Adhadhu understands that Naveen was ordered by President Mohamed Muizzu to retire from the police force.
