Four people were seriously injured in a dangerous accident on the highway between Male' and Hulhumale' last night.

Police said the accident happened around 12:45 pm when a speeding car crashed into another car which had slowed down.

The car, which came from behind, hit four motorcycles on the highway.

"Four people sustained serious injuries in the accident," police said.

They are being treated at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) and Hulhumale' Hospital.

Police said an investigation was underway.
