The government will develop resorts, distribute the shares equally among the people and deposit money in dollars into every citizen's bank account, President Mohamed Muizzu promised today (February 5).

In his third presidential address delivered at the opening session of the People's Majlis this morning, Muizzu said the government has decided to develop resorts that will directly benefit the people.

“We will develop at least 10 resorts and deposit the bulk of the profits from these resorts into the bank accounts of every citizen of the Maldives equally once a year,” Muizzu said.

He said the shares of all the resorts developed by the government under the project would be distributed to all the people by law.

“And we will ensure that every citizen of the Maldives is an equal shareholder in all the resorts developed under this project,” he said.

“The benefits of the resorts developed under this project will be available to every citizen with an ID card equally, year after year. For the first time in the history of the Maldives, every citizen will become a direct shareholder of tourism,” he said.
