The opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) MPs blew whistles in protest as President Mohamed Muizzu delivered his presidential address at the opening session of the People's Majlis this morning (February 5).
In addition to whistle-blowing, MDP MPs were protesting by holding up signs expressing various sentiments.
At a press conference ahead of this year's presidential address, MDP MPs explained the government's failure to fulfil promises and achieve targets mentioned in the past two presidential addresses.

"When we studied the past two presidential addresses, his claims and promises about nationalism, economy, Islam, culture, inflation, and other topics were all lies. All lies to deceive the people,” Kendhoo MP Mauroof Zakir said.
Sharing statistics on the unfulfilled promises, MDP Chairperson and Hanimaadhoo MP Abdul Ghafoor Moosa said 90 percent of the promises were not fulfilled and said an explanation must be given at the third presidential address.
Muizzu continued his address without stopping despite protests by the opposition MPs.
