Beloved Dhivehi language teacher Aminath Hassan (Ainthu Miss) has passed away.
Ainthu Miss passed away at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) this morning (January 22) at the age of 58 years.
She had been undergoing treatment for cancer for more than a year.
Ainthu Miss was an educator for more than 30 years. She was a gifted Dhivehi language teacher who worked at Ameeniya School and Majeedhiya School.
She was among the first in the Maldives to complete a bachelor's degree in secondary Dhivehi teaching and the Dhivehi language.
Ainthu Miss was also one of the most prominent figures in creating a Teachers' Association. She was the only female teacher to participate in the 2008 strike to improve teachers' salaries and working conditions.
Ainthu Miss served as a member of the Asset Recovery Commission and the Media Council and had also been involved in voluntary work.
She contested for the Maafannu Central constituency seat in the last parliamentary election held in 2024.
Her funeral will be held at the Hulhumale' Cemetery after the Asr prayer today.
