The President's Office has refused to provide detailed information on President Mohamed Muizzu's remarks that some councils are not cooperating with development projects in the islands.

Speaking at the official opening ceremony of the PNC main office in Male' on January 8, Muizzu said some councils were obstructing development projects for political purposes.

"Even today, I check the progress of various projects. When I looked at the difficulties encountered in carrying out various projects, it was because the council had not given the land," Muizzu accused.

Adhadhu submitted a request under the Right to Information (RTI) Act to clarify which island and project Muizzu was referring to.

Adhadhu's question

1. On January 8, 2026, President Mohamed Muizzu said some of the projects announced by the government have been stopped because the councils have not allocated land. Which islands and which projects are these?

The President's Office declined to provide this information. The office said it could not provide the requested information and the RTI form has now been transferred to the Finance Ministry.

Addu city Mayor Ali Nizar said that Muizzu's remarks are part of a series of attempts by the government to discredit councils.
