The Elections Commission (EC) has received 779 complaints about the list of eligible voters for the April 4 local council elections.

The 10-day deadline for submitting complaints ended at 3:00 pm yesterday (January 18) and a total of 779 complaints were submitted.

"The law stipulates that 10 days must be given to file complaints," EC member Hassan Zakariyya told the Public Service Media (PSM).

He said most complaints were related to changes in address and residences and inclusion of deceased people on the list.

The complaints have been sent to the Department of National Registration (DNR), which will recommend necessary changes to the list.

Zakariyya said the amended final list of eligible voters will be publicised within two weeks.

According to the EC, 294،937 people are eligible to vote. They are 150,410 male and 144,527 female voters.
